Codes and attribution

Know what your promotion did, instead of guessing.

A discount code for your newsletter, a code of their own per promoter, and the source of every order recorded alongside it. That is how you learn which effort sold tickets.

  • Discount codes in the checkout
  • A code of their own per promoter
  • Source and campaign kept with the order

What you can measure and give

Three ways to attribute a sale

Giving a discount and knowing who sold are two different things. They are separate, so you can use them separately.

Discount codes

A code that lowers the price at checkout. For your newsletter, your members or a campaign with a partner.

Promoter codes

A code that leaves the price alone but records who brought the sale. Made for promoters, artists or associations selling on your behalf.

Source, medium and campaign

If somebody arrives through an ad, a newsletter or a social post, the source, medium and campaign are kept with the order — not only in your analytics tool.

Traceable per order

Each order shows which code and which source it carried. That can be checked, instead of being a percentage in a dashboard.

Codes nobody mistypes

Codes are 2 to 32 characters of letters, digits, hyphens and underscores, and case does not matter. Your audience does not have to type like a programmer.

Side by side in one order

A discount code and a promoter code can sit on the same order: the visitor gets the discount, the promoter gets the sale on their name.

What it looks like

CheckoutDiscount code applied
NEWSLETTER10
  • Regular × 2€35.00
  • Discount (10%)−€3.50
  • Promoter codePROMO-A
Total€31.50
The visitor gets the discount, the promoter gets the sale on their name. Both stay with the order.

In practice

A campaign you can account for afterwards

01

Decide on the codes

Say NEWSLETTER10 as a discount code, and a promoter code of their own per person or association selling for you.

02

Share them

The discount code goes into your mail or post; the promoter code goes to the promoter, along with the link to your shop.

03

Sell

Your visitor enters the code at checkout. The source of the click comes along automatically.

04

Settle with your promoters

After the sale you see per code how many orders and tickets there were, and at what revenue.

Example

Three promoters and one newsletter

The same night, four sources, and no argument afterwards.

NEWSLETTER1084 tickets, €2.50 off each
Promoter code PROMO-A61 tickets, full price
Promoter code PROMO-B37 tickets, full price
No code218 tickets, source from the campaign parameters

Every promoter is paid for what they actually sold, and you know whether that ten percent off in the newsletter paid for itself.

Questions we get

What is the difference between a discount code and a promoter code?
A discount code lowers the price for the visitor. A promoter code leaves the price alone and only records who brought the sale. You can use them separately or together.
Can a promoter see what they sold?
You see it yourself per code in your overview and can share that. A promoter gets no access to your customer details or your revenue.
Does this work with the widget on my own website?
Yes. The code is entered in the same checkout, whether the sales screen sits in your ticket shop or in your own page.
